Like so many other writers, I am sure, my hard drive is full of many unfinished ideas, however, there is one main theme throughout mine. I use my writing as a kind of therapy, helping me to document the time of certain events, as well as healing from the events that take place in my life.

As a reporter for the local newspaper, I usually have to attend certain events and write a synopsis within a short window of time. Honestly, I usually don’t get much out of the events, and writing about them is just like word vomit on the page. Regurgitating the event, a few quotes of a speech, or an answer to a question, and within an hour or two I'm uploading the story to my editor.

This time, I got a message to attend an event from a local victim's assistance group. My manager sent me a screenshot of the announcement called “Stories of Hope and Healing,” local storytellers sharing their stories and experiences from victim to survivor.

I inwardly rolled my eyes at the theme and wondered if she assigned this to me knowing that my narcissistic ex-husband was just released from jail a week shy of twenty months after the horrific beating I had endured. Did she know what was pulsing through…
