February 24, 2023, marks one year since Russia invaded Ukraine; tens of thousands of lives have been lost. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sings praise for his “invincible” country as the United States implements new sanctions on the Russian government and reveals intent for further military support for the capital of Ukraine. In the last twelve months, millions of Ukrainians fled and became refugees worldwide, causing Ukraine’s gross domestic product to drop by as much as 35%. Zelenskyy addressed his brave country on the multi-platform messaging service, Telegram, speaking toward their faith and unity in their year of sorrow, all while fighting for their homeland and being virtually indestructible. He wrote positively and declared this next year would be a “victory” for Ukraine.

The United Nations General Assembly held an emergency session in New York where they drafted a resolution entitled, “Principles of the Charter of the United Nations underlying a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine.” The resolution attests to the need for the rapid establishment of peace in Ukraine and demands that the Russian military withdrawal from the country while enforcing accountabilities for all alleged war crimes committed in the conflict.
